The Double Down Drill
If you want to see growth in whatever area of your life/business, you have to position yourself for it. By preparing yourself and operating in a way that allows for it, growth will happen.
Here’s how to work what I call The Double Down Drill: Treat what you do as though it is doubled in size; this will force you to think at a higher level and operate in a way that prepares you for the increase.
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- What would you need to change if you doubled in size overnight?
- What systems would need to be more efficient?
- Who would you need to have in place?
- Where would you need to put your efforts?
- What would you need to take off your plate?
- What kind of team would you need around you?
Here are some areas you can work this drill:
- Your Team (what if I had double the size of a team to lead)
- Your Finances (what if I had double the finances to spend/invest)
- Your Products (what if I had double the products to produce)
- Your Clients (what if you had double the amount of clients to serve)
- Your ______ (fill in the blank)
If you start to operate in a way that supports growth, you’ll open the door for it to become a reality. Many organizations aren’t growing because they aren’t set up to handle it. You need to work in a way that reflects where you want to go, not the way you currently are. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. Too often, we get so bogged down, maintaining what we have that we fail to formulate a plan for where we want to go.
Begin to operate in a way that stretches you for growth. Double down and function as if you’re already there by spending time thinking through what it would take. The Double Down Exercise is a phenomenal way to creatively figure out what you need to do in order to get to where you want to go.
