Why Your Team Is Not Producing

Why Your Team Is Not Producing

August 25, 2020 Posted by John Barrett

Why Your Team Is Not Producing

Give a great idea to an average team and you will get a bad product. Give an average idea to a great team and you will get a phenomenal product. So goes the team’s creative ability, so goes what they produce. The quality of a result comes from the quality of the people creating it. Getting the right people on the team is THE KEY to getting the right results. One cannot expect to get a fantastic product with a not so fantastic team.

So how do you go about building a creative team?

Pick the right people, put them in the right place, and let them go.

1. Pick The Right People

If you don’t get the right people involved in the creative process you will NOT get the result you want. The very first step to creating awesomeness is to get awesome people. Your team will only be as good as the players on it. Many leaders believe they can take anyone and turn them into great producers, but this is a myth. Some people just DO NOT fit…don’t try to force them to.

2. Put Them In The Right Place

It is vital to get everyone on the team functioning at their optimal performance. This can only happen when people are placed in their strength zone. When people are great in a certain area of expertise and are forced to work outside of that area they will NOT flourish. People flourish when they are properly placed where they fit the best. Getting the team to fit into place is like a puzzle, when they fit it all comes together beautifully.

3. And Let Them Go

When you have the right people in the right place they will naturally produce results. If you have to spend all your time motivating them and pushing them you need to question if you’ve done steps 1 & 2 properly. The by-product of getting the right team together is GREAT RESULTS. If great results are not happening it is almost ALWAYS because of a breakdown with the right people in the right place. When great people are running things you let them go and let them produce. Don’t micro-manage them, and certainly don’t box them into a one-size-fits-all style of working. Allow them the freedom to be creative. Stop cutting their legs out from underneath them by getting involved too much…be a let go type leader.
