Why You Need A Leadership Coach…
Every leader needs a guide to help bring out the best in them. Luke had Yoda, Katniss had Haymitch, Frodo had Gandolph, Dorothy had Glenda, and the list goes on. Everyone needs a trusted coach to help them unleash the hero they were created to be. In almost every profession high capacity individuals use a coach. Movie stars have acting coaches on set to help them in their roles, singers have vocal coaches during recording sessions, athletes have coaches during practices and on game day. And it’s not just those starting out in their occupation. Seasoned professionals continue to use coaches for the longevity of their career. The fact is, having a coach helps bring out your very best.
Imagine having someone who is totally invested into your success; totally focused on making you great. Totally working towards making you your best. This is what a coach can do for you.
Leadership should never be a lonely place. If you are alone in your leadership journey, you are going about it wrong. You need to be surrounded by people who are working with you to bring about greater success. Coaches provide guidance, feedback, accountability, ideas, strategies, and all-around support. This is someone who is not trying to win you over, position themselves for authority, or having ulterior motives. A coach is someone you can trust to be invested into YOUR journey, for YOUR benefit, for YOUR future.
Don’t be a Rambo-type leader trying to change the world all by yourself. Make sure you invest into your success by taking the step to getting a leadership coach who can refine your performance. The most successful people in life have a guide who works with them. You can trace every highly performing individual back to a highly competent coach…somehow…someway.
Here are some tips to getting a great coach…
1) Identify Your Why
Don’t get a coach because someone told you to. Get a coach because you know why you need one. Identify the reasons and goals that is driving you forward. The clearer you are as to why you need a coach, the easier it will be for them to work with you. Clarify your objectives and be prepared.
2) Meet With Several Potential Coaches
Search leadership coaches that you can connect with initially to find out who they are and how you connect with them. Don’t just hire someone who works for you, you want to hire a coach that works with you. This means you need to feel a genuine likability with them. Make sure to talk with at least 2-3 before making a decision. Meet until you find the right fit…for you…and for them.
3) Understand This Is An Investment
Don’t go cheap. The goal is not to find someone who is the cheapest, it’s to find someone who can help you get to where you need to go. Don’t settle for ok, find someone that will take you to a higher level. This is not a purchase…this is an investment into your future, and that is invaluable. How can you put a cheap price on your success. If you are not willing to invest into yourself don’t expect others to invest into you either.

4) Take It Seriously
This isn’t a side project you are doing half-heartedly. You need to be whole committed to the coaching process. Be coached is like a bank account…you can only get out of it what you put into it. Your future is too important to float by, get intentional about becoming your best. When you raise your abilities you’ll raise your possibilities.
