The One Question That You Need To Ask Yourself
In this new year, I just want you to answer one question.
Here it is…
What’s the one thing that could change everything?
Disclaimer…this question should be asked for every area of your life. So, it’s one question that you can ask for everything. In honor of The Lord of the Rings, it’s the one question to rule them all! For me, I break down my life into 7 categories that I continually set goals in and work on. These areas are:
- Faith
- Family
- Finances
- Fitness
- Friends
- Fun
- Future
For each of these areas of my life I ask myself this specific question based on the one question, “What’s the one thing I do that could change everything I do?” It’s like the 80/20 rule sort of. Ask yourself what’s the one thing that can produce maximum output above all other things. If you did this one thing it should change everything for the better.
Instead of setting tons of goals that are all over the place, and sometimes overwhelming, just keep asking, “What’s the one thing I can do that could change everything I do?” The answer to this question becomes the goal. And research has proven time and time again that short-term goals are much more effective than long-term goals. For example, losing 5 pounds in the next few weeks then resetting for another 5 pounds over the next few weeks once you reach it is more motivating and attainable than losing 50 pounds over the next year. It may be the same outcome in the end, but our brains compute it totally differently. The further away the goal is the less likely we are to stick with it. This isn’t my opinion, this is the proven psychology of goal setting.
My challenge for you is to answer the question, “What’s the one thing that could change everything?” for each area of your life as you see fit. Once you answer it, start to make a plan to implement and discipline yourself to do it and you’ll start making significant progress.
