Small Wins Produce Huge Victories

Small Wins Produce Huge Victories

Small Wins Produce Huge Victories

As a leader, it is vital that you help your team get small wins. No one wants to be part of a losing organization. Unfortunately, I see a lot of leaders who only come down on their team and never build them up. They spend more time talking about the losses than the wins. Over time, the team begins to shut down and eventually give up altogether.

It is imperative that you help your people get wins everyday. In fact, you should make it a point to help them identify small wins each and every moment you can. Small wins produce huge victories over time.

So how can you help your team get wins?

1) Make Small Wins A Big Deal

If you only talk about the big wins your team will always be chasing monumental progress. The only problem is that progress is just what it means…progressive. You make giant leaps by small steps. It’s the teams that celebrate the small wins that produce huge victories eventually. Don’t underestimate the small things. Sometimes the smallest things are the biggest things. Slow down and give attention to the smallest win and your team will start winning more and more.

2) Make Every Day Count

Find something worth celebrating each and every day, or at least each and every interaction with team members. Always, always, always find something to acknowledge…every single time you have an opportunity to communicate! The leaders who point out hard work and appreciate others are the ones who gain the greatest influence. Certainly, don’t be manipulative or trite, but at the same time don’t be stingy! Holding back praise and encouragement is like holding back a bucket of water from someone who is dehydrated.

3) Make Winning A Habit

Coach Vince Lombardi said, “Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.” Reward what you want repeated. The more you acknowledge the right kind of work the better your team can calibrate to it. Point out what is working and people will do more of it. Where your focus goes energy flows. Focus on what’s winning and make it stand out above the losses.

Where your focus goes energy flows.
