New Year…New You

New Year…New You

January 1, 2019 Posted by John Barrett

New Year…New You

Get ready for 2019, it’s here!

A new year can bring a new you. I love the start of each year with the opportunity for a fresh reset. We need markers in our life that keep us focused and moving forward. In fact, research has proven that anticipating an event actually produces the neurochemicals that the event itself produces. For example, anticipating a vacation releases the same feeling inside of you as the actual vacation. And it can be argued that the anticipation of an event is sometimes greater than the actual event. This also works in a negative way too. If you anticipate a stressful situation your body will release cortisol, the stress hormone, as much as the stressful event itself.

The psychology of anticipation is fascinating. It can work for or against you depending on how you use it. So my question to you is, are you anticipating a new you in the new year? A fresh start for the next version of yourself?

Think of 2019 as version 2.0 of you…or 23.0 depending on how often you’ve upgraded yourself. And yes, you should always be upgrading your thinking, your actions, your giving, your serving, your leadership, your relationships, your work, and your abilities. Don’t get stuck with the old you when you can have a new you. Refresh yourself, reinvent yourself, reignite yourself, re-energize yourself, re-invest yourself, re-engineer yourself.

Don’t get stuck with the old you when you can have a new you.

What is it that you’ve always wanted to do? What is it you’ve always wanted to be? What is it you’ve always wanted to see? Now make a plan to make it happen. No more excuses, no more wasted time, no more procrastination, no more wishing. It’s time to be and do what you’ve always wanted to be and do. This is the year for a new you.

When the clock rolled over today let it be the start of your opportunity clock. Make a choice to do something amazing with your life this new year. There is nothing holding you back, nothing stopping you, nothing in your way, nothing too big, nothing too out of reach, nothing that can keep you from the best version of you. Make a choice with a plan of action to start a new journey of new opportunities.

I am excited for a new year and a new you! Get ready too!
