Perspective allows us to see things that we otherwise wouldn’t be able to see. If you were to look ahead from where you stand now, your view would be blocked by various obstacles in front of you (i.e. trees, buildings, etc.). However, if you were to climb up a tree, you would have a view above those obstacles. You would have a clearer perspective of the path ahead.
We gain perspective by seeing things through the eyes of purpose. It gives us a bird’s eye view of why we are doing what we are doing. It’s much easier to endure difficulties when we know there is a light at the end of the tunnel…and, no, it’s not a train heading our way for a collision.
Hold the image of the things you desire to accomplish before you, and before you know it, they will become a reality. I held the image of impacting people’s lives and inspiring them by speaking to large crowds long before I ever had the opportunity to do so. I held the image of starting a business long before I had the means to. I held the image of being married to a beautiful woman, inside and out, long before I married my wife. I held the image of writing books long before I ever put a word down on paper. George Lucas said, “Dreams are extremely important. You can’t do it unless you can imagine it.” The moment you lose sight of your dreams is the moment you’ll stop pursuing them.
“Hold the image of the things you desire to accomplish before you, and before you know it, they will become a reality.”
Perspective changes everything. Have you ever seen a holographic picture? When you stand just in the right place, an abstract picture would change into a beautiful scene before your very eyes. But, you had to get the exact perspective in order for the image to become clearly visible. Life works in much the same way. Many times we see situations out of focus; they become blurred by our emotional responses or poor judgment. We have lost our sense of perspective. Sometimes, all it takes is taking a step back to see the whole picture to regain a proper perspective.
