Innovation Assassins
Albert Einstein said, “If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it.”
Innovation derives from absurdity. Dreaming beyond our capacity is the catalyst for creativity. The greater the ideas we have, the greater the impact we can make. One is limited not by their bank account, friendships, or even opportunities; they are limited by the size of their ideas. Great innovators are great dreamers. Those who have made the biggest impact were the ones who were bold enough to envision unbelievable things. But too many times, we limit the size of our success by dismissing the possibility of our ideas. If people actually believed and acted on their ideas, the world would be changed overnight. But what happens? Someone has a great idea…and then…the voices of absurdity and practicality suffocate the Idea until it dissipates into its death. Ideas are fragile in their conception phase. All it takes is one negative word, one skeptical voice, one unforeseen challenge, and they can disappear as fast as they came in.
We must treat our ideas with action. They need a limitless birthplace in order to get started. This is why having the wrong people in a brainstorming session can KILL the potential before there is even a possibility of greatness. If ideas get around what I call “INNOVATION ASSASSINS,” potential ceases to exist. This is why we need to share our ideas (at first) only with those who have the ability to foster them, not annihilate them.
Let me share this formula when it comes to sharing ideas:
Wrong Idea + Wrong Person = Disaster
If you have a wrong idea that is no good and you share it with the wrong person, it may actually end up happening. And the result is an unsuccessful endeavor. Make sure you share with the right people who can bring truth to you and not just tell you what you want to hear.
Right Idea + Wrong Person = Death
A great idea shared with the wrong person can knock the wind out of your sails. Skeptical, nondreaming, unmotivated, no life, fearful, problem-finding, negative, purposeless people will bring DEATH to great ideas. These people fight against great ideas, always picking out the bad. They have a problem for every solution.
Wrong Idea + Right Person = Practicality
Sharing a wrong idea with the right person is wonderful. They can speak truth and practicality into your life. You may have ideas that are just not very good, but having the right person to help decipher them is great. We need people around us who can make our ideas better through honest conversation.
Right Idea + Right Person = Possibilities
This is where the magic happens…when you have the right Idea with the right person. This is the place where synergy and collaboration occurs. This is where dreams are nurtured and built upon. Success lives in this equation. Always seek the right people and bring them great ideas in order to move quickly. Make sure you build a great inner circle team that you can create with.
